Raw Feeding Week Day 7: Open Letter to Vets

Raw Feeding Week Day 7: Open Letter to Vets

We end Raw Feeding Week with an open letter to all vets.

To Whom it May Concern,

Tilly's Treat Cupboard is a shop focusing on the well-being of pets, especially dogs and cats.

Both Helen and Michelle, the owners, have undertaken courses in pet nutrition and frequently update their knowledge through CPD (attending lectures, webinars and other appropriate training). The team at Tilly's Treat Cupboard are also members of the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society.

We predominantly try and help dogs and cats have the best and most appropriate diets that they can. Humans do much better on a natural, unprocessed diet and our pets are no different.

However, we do appreciate concerns many vets have about raw feeding.

We too have concerns about raw feeding.

There are so many owners who do not raw feed correctly and many manufacturers who are not properly registered.  Both of which compromise the health of our pets.

At Tilly's Treat Cupboard, we know that a raw diet done correctly is the best diet a dog and cat can have but only when done properly. We take pride in only stocking food from DEFRA approved premises. Even then, we have refused to stock some that we feel doesn't meet our high standards.

We give free advice to every customer. We won't just sell them raw food for the sake of profits. We understand what we are selling and will discuss in detail how to ensure owners meet the nutritional requirements of their pets.

It's worth noting that we do not solely recommend raw food and certainly not a limited raw food diet. We appreciate that raw food is not a one stop cure all for all dogs.  We look at each dog and owner individually to decide with them what the best diet will be for their health, life-stage and life-style.

We would be delighted to work alongside all vets. If you have a client who feeds raw, please know they would be safe to come to us. We will ensure they leave Tilly's with a thorough understanding of what they are feeding and we will tell them if what they're feeding compromises their dog's or cat's health in anyway

Times are changing and people are looking more into how they feed their pets. The raw food sector continues to grow with more and more owners choosing this diet for their pets.  Vets being negative about raw feeding only makes these owners dislike visiting the vets which can be detrimental to the pet's health.

Please, let's work together to make this, and future, generations of dog thrive.

We invite all vets to visit us and see what we're about. Spend time in our shop, listen to advice we give, ask us questions, and learn more about raw feeding.

Kind regards

Helen and Michelle
